Mosler - Dominus Effect, by Dominus

Offering Detail

This latest Breeding Partnership acquisition is a full-circle story: RESPONSE TIME was bred in the name of Country Life Farm. We owned her dam, DOMINUS EFFECT, who we bred to our War Front stallion MOSLER to get RESPONSE TIME. DOMINUS EFFECT is a daughter of the Danzig mare DANZIG CELTIC, who was purchased by B. Wayne Hughes for $1,050,000 as a Keeneland yearling. RESPONSE TIME thus carries the influences of the brilliant speed sire DANZIG through her sire MOSLER and her dam.

RESPONSE TIME raced locally for trainer Hamilton Smith and owner Mens Grille Racing, who bought her at the 2020 Fasig-Tipton Spring 2-Year-Old sale at Timonium for $100,000. Carrying the silks of Mens Grille, RESPONSE TIME never disappointed. We studied her Thoro-Manager Speed Numbers, and she ran spectacular “7’s,” three “8’s,” and four “9’s.”  That’s smoking-hot. She won the $100,000 Timonium Distaff Stakes and were it not for a *Florida-sired runner in the 2023 renewal of the $100,000 Maryland Million Distaff, she would have captured that prestigious race as well. (*INTREPID DAYDREAM defeated her in the Distaff as well as in the $75,000 Politely Stakes.)

Consider the quality of RESPONSE TIME’s competition. In the Timonium Distaff, for example, she defeated runner-up Malibu Beauty (earnings of $774,699) and 1-2 favorite PRINCESS KOKACHIN (earnings of $510,720). In the Filly-and-Mare division in Maryland, you better have on your runnin’ shoes if you wanna win.  We have attached Race Replay links to her win in the Distaff, in which she ran an “8,” and to her stellar performance in a $70,000 Laurel allowance, in which she sprinted to a 3-length win while running a career-best “7.”

Country Life extends its gratitude to stalwart Maryland racehorse owners Mens Grille, the nom-de-course of owners Dave and Lori Hughes. Their careful campaigning of RESPONSE TIME extended her productive racing career. As you can see from the linked video from the Fasig sale, RESPONSE TIME is gracefully transitioning from formidable racemare to beautiful broodmare.

Fast mares make fast foals, and that is our goal with RESPONSE TIME. She is presently in Lexington, Kentucky, under lights, preparing for the February 2025 opening of breeding sheds. We have not selected a stallion for her, that will be a Partnership decision very soon. However, we are “nicking” her with some of the most exciting sires in the Bluegrass and our bloodstock advisor in Kentucky, John Stuart has evaluated her and said two things stand out from a pedigree perspective. He thinks the reason she was so good as a racehorse was because she was inbred to Danzig 3×3, and that the best horse in the immediate family is by Into Mischief (G2 winner Lane Way) so that sireline could work with her. Uncle Mo or Tapit-line stallions look strong for her as well. The plan is to breed commercial yearlings from her, aiming for select summer sales.

As the Maryland horse industry begins its investment of $400-milion in improvements, including the rebuild of historic Pimlico, and with this week’s announcement of a $3-million marketing effort based around the 150th running of the Preakness this spring, this is the time to set the table for the future. Factor in the resurgence of racing in Virginia at Colonial Downs, and we feel that Country Life’s innovative Racing and Breeding Partnerships position us for success in the coming years.
