Purchased at the 2023 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, In It For the Gold is a 9-year-old Speightstown mare in foal to 2020 Kentucky Derby winner AUTHENTIC (whose 91 yearlings offered in 2023 averaged $286,076). She won a Maiden Special Weight in New York and ran an “8” on the dirt and a “9” on the turf. Her dam, All Due Respect, was a multiple graded stakes winner who earned over $468,000 in her career, including a 2nd in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks.

In It For the Gold has a 2022 colt by Gun Runner that is being kept by the breeder to race and a 2023 colt by Maxfield who sold for $240,000 one hip before we bought his dam. This mare’s first foal by Nyquist brought $310,000 and won on debut at 3; her second foal by Into Mischief is trained by Steve Asmussen and has 3 wins in Allowance company so far.

In It For the Gold is a typical Speightstown mare with a little more size than most but she throws foals that look like their sire, so we’re excited to see her Authentic baby when it’s born in early March. She’ll be bred back to Kentucky stallion in 2024.
