We spent days at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock sale searching for nice in foal mares to add to our broodmare band, so we were happy to have been able to buy Hip# 1546, for $70,000 (10% shares at $7,000). Kenda, a 9-year-old Bodemeister mare, is in foal to Speightstown’s freshman son OLYMPIAD (who covered 226 mares at a $35,000 fee his first season at stud in 2023). She won Santa Anita’s $75,000 Special Goddess Stakes and ran a “7” and a “8” on turf against tough California fillies. She has a 2022 City of Light colt named Filoso who brought $210,000 as a Keeneland September yearling two months ago. She also has a 2023 Maxfield filly. Significantly, Kenda is also the dam of a 4-year-old Gun Runner named Leading Contender for Chad Brown and Klaravich Stable; in 4 starts, he has run a “5,” and two “9’s.” Those are numbers that indicate stakes caliber, so we’re looking forward to seeing what he does in the future.
